Meet The Professor
Hiroshi Funakoshi
Department of Advanced Medical Science has been newly established department in Asahikawa Medical University, JAPAN, since May 17, 2018. H.F. has become a pioneer Professor and Head of the department. The department focuses on basic research to novel therapeutic interventions. Our research interests are as follows; (1) to develop Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) as a novel therapeutic agent for various incurable diseases, such as amyotrophic sclerosis (ALS), spinal cord injury, polyglutamine diseases, and so on (2) to elucidate the roles of tyryptophan metabolisms on physiological emotional behaviors as well as pathophysiological conditions including familiar emotional disease. We are utilizing Genome Editing approach to develop novel knock-in mice and rats for the purpose (3) to develop a new therapeutic intervention based on the differential potentials of regeneration between mammalians and non-mammalian species. This is a challenging project but we are going to consume a lot of effort on it.
We are seeking graduate and doctoral students as well as post-doc with enthusiastic passions. If you are interested in our research scope, please contact us.

Development of HGF Therapy
To develop Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) as a novel therapeutic agent for various incurable diseases, such as amyotrophic sclerosis (ALS), spinal cord injury, polyglutamine diseases, and so on.Phase I/II study of spinal cord injury is under the progress by Prof. Masaya Nakamura's Group, and Phase II study of ALS is under the progress in Tohok and Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine
Tryptophan metabolisms
& Genome Editing
To elucidate the roles of tyryptophan metabolisms on physiological emotional behaviors as well as pathophysiological conditions including familiar emotional disease. We are utilizing Genome Editing approach to develop novel knock-in mice and rats for the purpose
Challenging Issue to develop novel regenerative approach(es)
To develop a new therapeutic intervention based on the differential potentials of regeneration between mammalians and non-mammalian species. This is a challenging project but we are going to make a lot of effort on it.
